Head south to Coyoacan’s new sounds

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

Coyoacan Steak House on south Central is becoming a south Phoenix magnet for musicians and music lovers. Enjoy a pitcher of Sangria and the restaurant’s popular Mar y Tierra, their premier filet mignon and jumbo shrimp plate, while listening to a new line-up of bands and jam sessions new management has installed.

On Cinco de Mayo the Str8up Band, Cascabel and headliner Beatriz Montes team up to celebrate near the South Mountains. Mary Hurtado, the organizer of a Cinco festival for years in Peoria, has gone south and is putting together Coyoacan’s celebration.

The regular schedule is Cascabel on Thursday, and the Str8up Band, Beatriz Montes or the Tucson-based Tejano group Sangre Caliente entertaining on the weekend.

Another change is the Wednesday Musicians Madness jam session, with specially priced food and drink for local musicians. The session starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m. The rhythm section for the jam is straight out of the Str8up Band.

There’s a Arizona Ride Home Program in case diners party too hard. Coyoacan Steak House is located at 9014 S. Central Ave., (602) 323-9010. Visit its Web site for band schedules, menu and special offers. Dinner and reservations, or music updates at www.coyoacan.homestead.com.
