“Quiero ganar (I want to win)”
Arizona Sen. John McCain, a presidential candidate, may be practicing rolling his r’s in front of the mirror as you read this.
McCain accepted an opportunity from Univision to join a Spanish-language Republican presidential debate to be aired over the network Sept. 16.
McCain was the first Republican to accept the invitation. He has scored some points with Latino voters when he emotionally hailed the bravery and sacrifices of Hispanic veterans in the Vietnam and Iraq wars.
Univision also will stage a forum for Democratic candidates on Sept. 9. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd – who are fluent in Spanish – quickly RSVPed in June. At press time, the other Dem candidates still hadn’t said, “Si.”
