America Corrales and husband Terry Bortin

Elevator pitch: We serve authentic Mexican food using the best products. At America’s Taco Shop, we care so much about the products that we serve, we would never send out food we would never serve to our own family.

What makes your business unique? The combination of food quality and our style of service in a very comfortable setting.

How did America’s get started? My husband Terry Bortin has been in the restaurant business for about 16 years. One day he said we should share our carne asada with the public. We opened our first restaurant on October 20, 2008.

Company you admire: I admire Houston’s, because they are very consistent with the quality of their product. I am all about consistency and quality.

Greatest inspiration: My mom has inspired me the most. She is the person I need to thank every day for instilling in me the love for cooking.

Best advice: From my 6-year-old daughter Analis (5 years old at the time). She said, “Mom, don’t get nervous. Take a deep breath and just do what you need to do, the best that you can.”

Best thing about owning a business: We get to have our two daughters (Analis, 6 and Alexa, 4) involved in our business, and we love seeing how happy our customers are with our product.

Business values: My husband and I continue to focus on improving on three areas that are most important to us: FOOD, SERVICE and a CLEAN restaurant.

Historical figure you would like to meet: John Paul the II

Milestone: Opening our second location 15 months after our first America’s Taco Shop. We just added a third location in Tempe!
