If you are the sort who daydreams of the great outdoors while toiling in a corporate cubicle, there is an online job search engine made just for you.
CoolWorks.com provides leads for seasonal professionals to find jobs at national parks, recreational resorts, and summer jobs at camps. Many of the positions include cooks, wait stuff, maintenance, campground personnel and front office staff.
Among the categories available to browse are Conservation Corps, guest ranches, guide jobs, jobs on water, ski resorts, internships, volunteer, teen jobs and national park.
Seasonal positions normally run from October to May, while summer work, well, is just that. But if you have a passion for the outdoors, this might be just the spot to find your dream job, if only for part of the year.
There is even a category for those job seekers who think of themselves as “older and bolder,” and people who want to share their work experiences can enroll in the site’s online social network.
Examples of places (listed as of mid-June):
Rock Harbor Lodge, a Michigan resort in Isle Royale National Park, is situated on the shore of Lake Superior.
Rosario Resort & Spa, located on Orcas Island, near Moran State Park in Washington state’s San Juan Islands. Did we mention you need to take a ferry or seaplane to get there?
And Smugglers’ Notch, a resort and water park in Vermont, boasts seasonal employees who return every year.
“I love to hear the children laughing, singing and playing outside my office window on the lazy days of summer,” writes repeat employee Cathy Turner at the resort’s site. “No more tinted windows that couldn’t open, heavy traffic or stagnant air. I don’t miss the planes flying by my old office windows in the city.”
Right about now, with triple-digit Arizona heat, that sounds great.
