¿Que? You might think a Latin rock/folklorico band based in Brooklyn wouldn’t be authentic, but that would be before hearing Pistolera.

Lucky for you, there will be two chances for you to do just that. Both Club Congress, 311 E. Congress St., Tucson and the Paper Heart Gallery, 750 N.W. Grand Ave., Phoenix, will be showcasing Pistolera this month.

Straightforward rock rhythms, powerhouse accordion playing plus guitar and bass add to the band’s foundation of Mexican folk-influenced tunes. All the songs on its newest CD, Siempre Hay Salida, are originals (to hear samples, visit www.myspace.com/pistoleramusic). As the band’s bassist Inca B. Satz proudly points out, audiences love to see these “strong women” playing onstage. Drummer Ani Cordero writes the songs, while guitarist Sandra Lilia Velasquez sings and Maria Elena drives the accordion.

The Phoenix gig also features two great local Latino bands, Fatigo and Cascabel. We suggest wearing clothes that move because you will definitely want to dance.
