Chandler poet and ASU Regent Professor Alberto Rios gives the keynote address at the 2007 Unity Luncheon Jan. 12 during the city’s Celebration of Unity at the San Marcos Resort Ballroom, 1 S. San Marcos Place.

Rios, born in Nogales in 1952, will share his views on the critical role diversity plays in today’s society and how to best celebrate those differences among community members. Rios’ latest book, Theater of the Night, is a poetic account of his great grandparents’ lives on the border.

The luncheon kicks off a weekend of events, including the Multicultural Festival on Jan. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of the downtown library, 22 S. Delaware St. Tickets are $35 each.

A Childsplay production, Tomas and the Library Lady, is scheduled to be part of the festival. Based on a book by Pat Mora, Tomas will also enjoy a reading by the author on Jan. 11.
