‘Hippie Mexicana’ digs up laughs
Picture a small farm in Arizona, circa 1972. At the intersection of two prehistoric canals, members of the Rios family come across an unexpected archeological find that unleashes a series of events, transforming their laid-back lifestyle forever.
Borderlands Theater offers its first full production, Hippie Mexicana, a comedy by Evangeline Ordaz, at Beowulf Alley Theatre, 11 S. 6th Ave., Tucson.
Late last summer, Tucson Weekly reported that the venerable theater company, renowned for its multicultural repertoire and grassroots support, was struggling to manage a shortfall in its budget. Hopefully, audiences will turn out to show their support of this cultural gem of a company. Directed by Armando Molina, Hippie Mexicana runs April 5-22; show times vary.
